Residents who are in the habit of blocking of roads for partying and workers of road construction companies who connived with them, thereby causing untold hardship to motorists plying such roads will henceforth be arrested for prosecution.
The Chairman of Eredo LCDA in Lagos state, Hon Adeniyi Saliu gave the warning on Monday, May 6, 2019. According to a press statement he personally signed and made available to Gateway Times, the council helmsman said he had in recent times received cases of multiple accidents orchestrated by illegal diversion of roads in the area.
Saliu however ordered that such road should immediately be dismantled to allow for free flow of traffic, warning that the council leadership won’t hesitate to drag anybody caught in the process before the court as there was no approval for such by the LCDA.
The full text of the statement reads:
Dear Good People of Eredo,
I have received with grave concern cases of multiple deaths, injuries and accidents owing to the unauthorized blockage of major roads, particularly the Epe/Ijebu-Ode road by communities celebrating one event or the other and in active connivance with staffers of the contractor handling the project.
Please be informed that those blockages were not authorized by the Council and it will not be authorized. Communities blocking major roads for any reason at all do so illegally and therefore risk prosecution.
- All blockages on the named major road and other major roads within Eredo Local Council Development Area should be cleared immediately.
- Going forward, no one or community is allowed to block a major road.
- The contractor cannot block the road except for construction or repair purposes.
- Anyone caught violating this directive will be effectively prosecuted.
Please be warned.
Chairman, Eredo LCDA
