The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun says the State is proud of the achievement of the Ogun born current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Interim Middleweight Champion of Martial Arts Skills, Mr. Israel Adesanya.
The Governor who stated this while receiving the Champion in his office at Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, charged him not to lose touch with his root, saying, “Ogun State Government is very happy of the achievement of our son, Israel Adesanya, he has made us proud. We’ll continue to monitor your progress and achievements from time to time”.
According to him, “this is the stuff that we are made of in Ogun State. This is what we refer to as Ogun Standard; it is the result of hard work and God’s grace’’, assuring of intimating the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports and Mr. President of the achievement.
Speaking in an interview, the 29 year old UFC Champion, who hails from Odogbolu in Ogun East Senatorial District of the State, ascribed his success to God and hard work, promising to do more and improve on his future fights.
Having defeated Gastelum, a Mexican fighter in Atlanta, Adesanya came back to the country, 16 years after he had left the shores of his fatherland, saying he is happy to be back home.
It would also be recalled that Ogun State recently produced the world’s heavy weight champion, Anthony Joshua, who hailed from Sagamu Local Government Area of the State.
